Who we are and Why we are in China
A journal entry from October 2001

We live in Xiangtan, a small city in Hunan Province. Hunan is located in south-central China and is famous for its hot-pepper cuisine. Xiangtan is well-known as the hometown of Chairman Mao. His birthplace was Shaoshan, a village 30 miles to the west, and is a popular tourist attraction. Summers are quite hot and humid. Winters are cool, but seem much colder because the buildings are not heated. The city is surrounded by farmland and low hills.
Who, Why Who..., Why...
Journal Chapter 27, October 2001...

In which we declare that we are neither spies, fugitives, hedonists, proselytizers, psychotics, nor lepers. Rather, "we’re concerned with the development of human potential for all the Chinese, not only for the rich who are getting richer." We want our children to experience different cultures and to consider themselves world citizens. We hope to contribute, in some small way, to an improved model for society.
