Tian Xia, Yi Jia
Under Heaven, One Family A lecture given by Tim on October 17, 2001 to more than 600 college students. It is a compilation of standard "stump-speech" topics that we frequently discuss with students in China. The term "tian xia, yi jia" is well-known in China as an expression of unity. Tim asserts that the purpose of life is to improve ourselves and at the same time improve society. Every day, in little ways, we change the world around us. |
Oral English Methods
Changing Educational Philosophy Anne gave this lecture on December 5, 2001 to a group of Chinese teachers and students at our university. She wanted to give them a new way to think about learning. The older educational system is dominated by the philosophy of cramming information into the student's mind through drills and memorization. Anne promotes the view that ducation is a process to liberate the human potential within the student. It is a journey of discovery for both teacher and student. |
